Who is this course for?
This project-led creative course is tailored for young learners at Key Stage 2, offering an inspiring introduction to art and the wider creative sector. It encourages pupils to explore fine art techniques while nurturing their individual artistic expression. Throughout the course, they build essential foundational skills, while enhancing their imagination, communication, and enjoyment of visual arts and media.
Pupils have the chance to experiment with various mediums such as photography, animation, video, and digital design. Core areas include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustration, textiles, graphic design, and architecture. Through hands-on activities, children are guided to follow the creative journey from idea to final outcome, learning how to share ideas and refine their methods.
The programme strengthens pupils’ verbal, written and visual communication abilities, enriching their creative thinking across all subjects. Learners may specialise in a single medium or combine techniques to develop a personal creative style.

Project Overview by Year
Year 3
Pupils are introduced to drawing fundamentals through the works of Andy Warhol, Michael Craig-Martin, and Henri Matisse. The term concludes with an autumn leaf sketch. They explore colour with inspiration from Helen Frankenthaler and Georgia O’Keefe, and build a diorama influenced by Yayoi Kusama’s Obliteration Room. The year also introduces visual journaling and photographic research methods.
Year 4
The history and culture of masks form the core topic—ranging from ancient Egyptian and African styles to carnival, theatrical, and sci-fi designs. Pupils create their own superhero masks. They also study Greek myths, creating animal sculptures based on Mexican Alebrijes. Technical drawing is paired with Impressionist studies of Monet and Klimt, ending with an imaginative fantasy tree.
Year 5
Folk and outsider art from across the globe shape a narrative-led folding book project. Pupils examine urban life using line, colour, and perspective, drawing inspiration from Shantell Martin and photomontage. Later, they explore colour theory through divisionism and pixel art, culminating in paper quilling for the final piece.
Year 6
Anglo-Saxon myths fuel the design of new fantasy creatures that blend animal forms with human emotion. Another major theme, Environment & Me, sees learners studying artists like Andy Goldsworthy, Michael Veliquette and Hundertwasser to explore environmental issues in art. The year finishes with a study of movement in art, from Calder’s mobiles to Scarpace’s gestural drawing and flipbooks.
